Calendary, days of the week in Portuguese, Months in Brazilian Portuguese, Seasons, Seasons of the year in Brazil, Verb Have, Exercises, Answers, Sound Files, Take a look at the weekdays. In Portuguese, we don’t follow the astrological way of naming it. We follow the Latin idea that a day is usually a féria, and it is related to the liturgical prayers. Back in the Roman Period, the pope decided to name the weekdays after the praying moment of the day. That’s why we use the word FEIRA after the numbers designating the weekday. We go from Sunday “ DOMINGO- to number 2 to 6 and then SA?BADO, remaining the Jewish Sabbath. In this case, for the number, it is used the ordinal number.
