PRETÉRITO PERFEITO

This verb tense transmits the idea of a routine regular or continuous action. It basically refers to a prior action to the current moment, which is still current to the past moment we are talking about.

Example: Eu ESTUDAVA quase todo dia.

It can also transmit the idea of an action which has been happening but it was interrupted by another.

Example: Ela ESTUDAVA no quarto quando começou a chover.

It is also the verb tense used to narrate stories. Taka a look at this text:

Example: “Há muito tempo atrás, havia um príncipe. Esse príncipe gostava de passear pela floresta ao redor de seu castelo. Ele era feliz com sua família. Sua filha gostava de brincar na mesma floresta, com sua boneca.”

O pretérito perfeito é conhecido pelas suas terminações –VA, -VE or –IA, -IE.
Ele é formado a partir do radical do verbo (its root), normal para os verbos regulares.

Os verbos irregulares podem surgir de várias formas. Por exemplo, o verbo PÔR mantém sua conjugação para todos os verbos que terminam em pôr, como antePOR, comPOR, pressuPOR.
